July 28, 2011 Senate Disaster Assesment Hearing The hearing this Tuesday as dominated by department directors from department of Public Safety-SEMA, Department of Revenue and Linda Luebbering. DPS described how SEMA handled the Joplin crisis as well as Southeast Missouri and Sedalia. Senator Chappelle- Nadal on numerous occasions referenced St. Louis and their tornado. Luebbering estimates that the costs will exceed $150 million for the states share. The federal government will pay 90/10 for debris removal. However, other services such as infrastructure, new buildings and other services will probably be at the 75/25 rates. The Governor’s withholds of $150 million will be utilized. The states share will need to be for all the disasters Joplin, Southeast Missouri, Sedalia and St. Louis. Medical services were not directly discussed. |
